How Facebook Shops Will Help You Sell Plenty

Prior to this announcement, Facebook has had its Marketplace but this new feature will push it further, enabling businesses to create a full-fledged Facebook Shops. Buyers will be able to browse and purchase products directly from a business’s Facebook page.

The pandemic has truly made buyers resorting to online shopping which is hurting so many small businesses. CEO Mark Zuckerberg described this new feature as an effort to help businesses suffering in the wake of COVID-19. He also suggested how this will be useful even after the pandemic, saying,

“I do think we’re going to continue living more of our lives online and doing more business online.”

Now, how much do you need to pay to create a Shop? You don’t because it’s FREE! However, there will be small fees charged on each orders and the monetization will come from advertising. This means you’ll get to feature your shop in ads and stories.

How it Works

Just like other online selling platforms, you’ll be able to create a list of products and manage all stages of purchases including shipping and payments.  Interested buyers can then message your business directly through Messenger, WhatsApp or Instagram as they are all Facebook properties. The only aspect that cannot be done is to complete transactions directly from the Shop itself. Instead, buyers will be directed to your business’s website in order to purchase.

Facebook also announced their partnership with several different e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, BigCommerce, ChannelAdvisor, CommerceHub, Quipt, ShipStation and Zentail . This is to help businesses with back-end needs for their Shops. Shopify has also mentioned:

“Facebook Shops allows Shopify merchants to get control over customization and merchandising for their storefronts inside Facebook and Instagram, while managing their products, inventory, orders, and fulfillment directly from within Shopify.”

The Benefits

  • Add as many products as you want. You don’t need to upload a product catalogue anywhere else first, and there’s no limit on how many products you can add.
  • Customise your product inventory. You can organise your products into different collections so that your customers can browse your shop by category.
  • Communicate with customers. Your customers can message the shop on your Page with questions.
